Enhancing Family's Economy: Pioneering Mushroom Cultivation to Success

Amidst the work and activities of Klaten residents, a couple from Babadan, Karanganom Village, Karanganom District, shared an inspiring story.

By cultivating oyster mushrooms, Eri Susanto and Itha Listia turned sawdust into a profitable business. 

The business began in 2015 and now produces many baglogs slot777 (Oyster mushrooms-growing media) that are marketed to many places. 

Eri Susanto's story began when he met a friend who worked as a mushroom maker. 

"I met a friend who works in the mushroom business, and because I was curious, I finally tried to learn to make oyster mushrooms at home," Susanto said on Wednesday (8/1/2025).

The process of making baglog is quite effective. The filtered wood powder must be measured according to the portion, mixed with water, katul, and limestone, and then fermented for 1 night. After letting it sit, the mushroom seeds are inserted. Mushrooms that are ready to harvest can be waited for approximately 1 month. 

The marketing of oyster mushrooms carried out by Susanto and his wife already has a relatively wide range of customers, covering several markets in the Karanganom sub-district area. "For marketing, apart from going to the itinerant greengrocers, we also market to markets such as Ceper, Jurangjero, Gabus, and Ceper. Every day, customers from the market come to the house to take the mushrooms directly." He explained.

This oyster mushroom cultivation business offers Susanto and his family a business opportunity. The reason is that competition for oyster mushroom cultivation in Karanganom is still relatively small. "There is little competition here, so I think the oyster mushroom business is very profitable," He said.

Susanto admitted that oyster mushroom production increases as Ramadan approaches. Many customers order oyster mushrooms as processed chips and food fillings. "Especially during Ramadan, many people order them to make chips and food fillings, such as Cireng and Pentol," he continued. 

Susanto and his wife's business proves that creativity and perseverance from small things can be turned into profitable business opportunities that utilize local potential.
